FUN TRIVIA: Perthro’s meaning is unknown and can only be found in an Old English Rune Poem which refers to it as ‘ever play and laughter’ where warriors sit in the beer-hall together. The most eduicated guesses assigned are the ‘lot cup’ or ‘gaming piece’ or ‘wyrd and apple tree’. – the first two referring to games of chance, which were taken very seriously by the Celtic people and the third is suggested by Freya Aswynn who proposes an intriguing theory that the original Old English rune poem actually referred to ‘woman in the birthing-hall’, not warriors. Perthro does certainly has a deep connection to the mysteries of birthing so this fits as well with the concept of the Wyrd, bringing new souls born from the Well.
